Hey there ! My name is Debbie and I am a crazy busy wife and mom from Southwest Louisiana . Food and cooking is a way of life where I am from so I have been cooking and baking for as long as I can remember. When I was young we didn’t have microwaves or the convenient foods that we have today. Both of my parents worked so at a very young age I learned to cook for myself. The first thing I remember making on my own was a box of macaroni and cheese , to this day I still love that blue box of cheesy yumminess. When I was a little older I thought I was a gourmet chef when I learned to make tuna casserole with my special touch of potato chips crushed on top. That was seriously this chubby girls dream all in one dish!! I have grown as a home cook a bit since then but still love the comfort foods I learned to cook at a young age. I am always in the kitchen tinkering with recipes and sharing them with family and friends. I usually try to find quick and easy ways to cook things but occasionally I like to put a little extra love and time into recipes.
In 2010 I stumbled across a recipe club called Just a Pinch that allowed me to not only share my recipes but my love of photography. Sharing the love of cooking and food I quickly made friends with people that I still call my friends today. Being a member of the club I was awarded 9 Blue Ribbons and my recipes have been pinched thousands of times. In 2012 I won a spot with Just a Pinch to compete at the World Food Championships in Las Vegas . Although I didn’t place at this contest it was a fabulous experience and I met so many talented home cooks and professional cooks. Fast forward to 2015 , I was given a chance to work for the recipe club I love !! Getting paid to test recipes was a dream come true and this was truly an honor. It has been a juggling act the past few years with my full time job as a surgical scrub nurse, working for the test kitchen , and my kids busy schedule . Although I love testing other cooks recipes I also love creating my own so this is what has brought me here today. My goal is to share some homemade, semi-homemade, quick and not so quick recipes I have been making for years for everyone to enjoy.
A few things you should know about me
1. I have been married since 1999 to a sweet patient man. I have four kids but only been pregnant twice, let me explain. I have beautiful daughter in college that was from my husbands previous marriage . She was 3 when we married and I refuse to call her my step anything. Then I have 3 sports obsessed boys. The twins are in high school and the baby is in junior high. I am basically their personal cook .
2 I am a slave to autism. One of my twins is on the spectrum and he keeps us all in line. He expects dinner on the table at 6pm sharp but also reminds us of all important dates and appointments. He is my walking appointment book and amazes me all the time with his memory. Our “Rain Man” if you will.
3 Don’t speak to me before I have had my coffee in the morning . My kids still haven’t learned this rule ,lol.
4 I don’t watch reality shows because most of the time my life is more entertaining and crazy.
5 I love to cook and bake but hate to do dishes. Thank god my sweet husband helps with those.
6 My idea of a vacation is relaxing on a beautiful beach under an umbrella with a cold adult beverage in hand.
