Creamy Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Creamy Mashed Sweet Potatoes in a serving bowl and spoon

These creamy mashed sweet potatoes are savory and slightly sweet. They are rich and buttery , the perfect side for all occasions especially a holiday meal.  I just love sweet potatoes cooked just about anyway there is .  Believe me I just adore Candied Sweet Potatoes and sweet potato casseroles but sometimes I want something not so sweet , these babies are the winner.  Growing up we never had a holiday that didn’t consist of a sweet potato pie and some other type of side dish but I never really thought I would like a savory sweet potato. It turns out I adore the natural flavor , I could literally eat this entire pot of sweet potato goodness.

Before I speak anymore of sweet potatoes I have to share a little something with you. I have had three recipes waiting to post, I needed to finish the writing half of the process. On Monday August 24,2020 It was pretty evident that Hurricane Laura was coming straight to us in South West Louisiana . I live in a community right outside of Lake Charles where I have lived my entire life, so evacuating and hurricane prep is nothing new to me and my family.  All things stopped in my life and we went into hurricane prep mode. Everything needed moved from our patios and yards , put inside or secured . Once my house and my mothers house was secure then moving on to packing. In the digital age this is a little easier, all of our insurance for our home and cars are available on an app. So SS Cards and Birth certificates was all I grabbed since they are hard to replace. I didn’t even bring wedding photos and baby photos this time. My husband stayed home , against my judgement and rode out Hurricane Laura . While our community is completely devastated , we suffered damage but it could have been a lot worse for us. I have many friends that their homes are a complete loss. The photo below is one my nieces husband took. They lost so much in the storm BUT somehow his flag wasn’t lost and it was still flying in the wind when he found it. I just love this photo ! It reminds me that our flag isn’t  weak , it is STRONG!!  So strong it can withstand a Cat 4 hurricane and still found a way to fly . It is strong just like the people that fly it proudly. This one photo brought tears to my eyes the day after a sleepless night but brought so much hope at the same time.

I like to roast sweet potatoes or cook on the grill with a bit of chili powder and kosher salt. I’m thinking I may try these with some chili powder added for savory-ness. Looks yummy!
