Preheat your oven to 350°F. Place the butter in a 2.5–3-quart baking dish and set it in the oven until the butter is fully melted.

In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the self-rising flour, sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.

Remove the hot dish from the oven. Carefully pour the batter over the melted butter—do not stir.
Next, pour the canned peaches (with the syrup) right on top of the batter—again, do not stir.
