Tips and Variations

  • Use self-rising flour – This recipe relies on self-rising flour for lift. If you only have all-purpose, just add 1 1/4 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
  • Want more fruit? Add a second can of peaches for extra filling.
  • Out of canned peaches? You can absolutely use fresh peaches if they’re in season! Just slice about 4–5 ripe peaches and add 1/2 cup of warm water mixed with a few tablespoons of sugar to mimic the syrup from the can.
  • Try a different fruit – This batter works beautifully with canned pears, cherries, or even apple pie filling.
  • Add crunch – Sprinkle chopped pecans over the cinnamon sugar topping for a little Southern flair.

Freqeuntly Asked Questions

Can I use fresh or frozen peaches instead of canned?

Yes! Just be sure to add a couple tablespoons sugar and 1/2 cup of warm water when adding the peaches . This will mimic the syrup in the canned version.

Can I make this ahead of time?

Absolutely. You can bake it earlier in the day and reheat individual servings in the microwave or warm the whole dish in the oven

What if I don’t have self-rising flour?

No problem! You can make your own by combining 3/4 cup all-purpose flour with 1 teaspoon baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Whisk it together before adding to the batter

What size dish should I use?

A 3-quart baking dish works great for this . A 9×13 dish will also work but may produce a slightly thinner cobbler and less baking time .

I’ve been making a similar cobbler for years. My recipe doesn’t call for Bisquick though. I’ll have to try yours since peaches are in season. I’ve made mine with fresh or canned peaches either are equally as good. The recipe I have has a self-rising crust so it’s not too doughy.

All I have is a 9 x 13 pan so how much more would I have to add to have the filling to be thick? I don’t wanna thin cobbler.
