Hey y’all! Welcome to Baked Broiled and Basted. I’m Debbie the recipe developer, food photographer, and the person behind every crumb, casserole, and typo you’ll find here. I’ll be honest: writing isn’t exactly my first love… but cooking? Now that I can do. So if you’re here for perfect grammar, maybe lower your expectations . If you’re here for real recipes from a real kitchen, you’re in the right place.
Every dish I post is something I genuinely enjoy, and my goal is simple: to help home cooks make life a little easier (and a lot tastier). Because let’s face it everybody’s gotta eat, and home cooked meals will always win out over a sad drive-thru bag.
I’m a busy wife and mom from Southwest Louisiana, born into a family with deep Southern roots. My dad’s side hails from Lake Charles, Louisiana with Mississippi ties, and my mom brings in a diverse blend of Southeast Texas flavor. Translation? I’ve got Southern cooking in my bones but with a wide lens. The South is a big place y’all. So if something I make is a little different from your grandma’s version, don’t clutch your pearls. A recipe is a guide, not a law.
After nearly 30 years in healthcare, I traded scrubs for spatulas in 2019 and became a full-time food photographer and content creator. It’s been a wild, buttery ride. I’ve been creating recipes for as long as I can remember ,starting with boxed mac & cheese (a classic I will defend to my grave) and leveling up to gourmet tuna casserole topped with crushed potato chips. Yes, that happened. No, I have no regrets.
These days, my cooking is inspired by memories, family, and the amazing people who’ve taught me along the way(my mom, grandma, aunts, and more). Some of them are still in my kitchen; others live on through the recipes etched into my heart.
Take your time, look around, and find something that makes you excited to cook. There’s a little something for everyone here comfort food, Southern staples, and maybe even a casserole or two that’ll make you feel like a kid again (potato chips optional).
