Orange Fluff Salad

February 12, 2023 by Debbie 15 Comments

Orange Fluff Salad in a white serving dish

This orange fluff salad is a vintage recipe that combines whipped topping, sour cream , Orange Jell-o , mandarin oranges, pineapple and marshmallows for the fluff.   This comes from a time of when fluff salads were king and there are so many variations of this recipe out there . My Aunt used to put cottage cheese instead of sour cream but this is the way we had it at my house, but we all put marshmallows giving it the “fluff”. This was on our tables at all of our summer cookouts  all the way to the holidays. We always had this orange fluff at Easter while we had Watergate Salad at Thanksgiving and Christmas. I am not sure why , I don’t make the rules , LOL.

Southern Deviled Eggs

January 7, 2023 by Debbie 2 Comments

Southern Deviled Eggs displayed on a egg platter

These Southern Deviled eggs are creamy with a slight tang . They are perfect for all occasions and a staple in most southern households .  This is a good basic recipe that I have been using all of my life and it can be adjusted to your taste.  As long as I can remember we  have had deviled eggs at every holiday and just about every party or get together in between . I own more deviled egg platters than the average person , seriously no less than 10 platters of all shapes and sizes. I have collected then over the years buying most of them at thrift stores. When I see a platter that is a little unusual I have to buy it , like the one in the picture.  If you like this recipe you need to check out my Jalapeno Cream Cheese Deviled Eggs, it is a great twist on a classic.

Cut Out Sugar Cookies

December 11, 2022 by Debbie Leave a Comment

Cut out sugar cookies cut in circles already baked

These are the best cut out sugar cookies ! They soft , buttery and hold their shape perfectly . So versatile they can be topped with my sugar cookie frosting  , a glaze or Royal frosting of your choice. This is a tried and true recipe from my Mother and we made these every Christmas when I was growing up. I can remember sitting at our kitchen table for hours decorating cookies for our neighbors and friends. I first posted this sugar cookie recipe in 2010 to Just a pinch so I would always have a copy of it . That original recipe makes a ton of cookies so I cut it down a bit. If you love sugar cookies you need to check out my Chocolate Dipped Sugar Cookies .

Peppermint Bark

November 25, 2022 by Debbie 19 Comments

Three pieces of peppermint bark stacked next to a candy cane and a plate of them

Peppermint Bark is a Christmas candy with a layer of dark chocolate then creamy white chocolate . The top is dusted with refreshing minty candy canes, this is the taste Christmas .  The one candy I look forward to every holiday season is peppermint bark.  Once of my favorites is the one Ghirardelli makes but over the years it has gotten a little pricey. It occurred to me I could totally make this using their melting wafers. Let me be the first to tell you this is just as good and you get a big bag of this candy but a fraction of the cost . This candy would be perfect for gift giving or even a hostess gift for holiday parties. If you like this recipe give these Dark Chocolate Mint Cookies a try.

Bread Machine Garlic Knots

October 29, 2022 by Debbie 5 Comments

Bread machine garlic knots on a platter and one on a plate These bread machine garlic knots are extra soft and billowy. Slathered with a garlic butter these are a perfect to snack on dipping them in a marinara sauce or perfect along side your favorite soup. These go perfectly with my Pasta E Fagioli , you will even see that I was serving them with it in the photo.  I know these are traditionally made with pizza dough but these are more like rolls and so good. I am from the south and we serve garlic knots with soups and pasta dishes. On a recent trip to the Northeast I got to sample garlic knots in New York and New Jersey . If I lived there I would eat Bagels , Garlic knots and Pizza on a regular basis.  There is something special about all of the bread in the Northeast .
