January 17, 2023 by Debbie 12 Comments

a piece of Blueberry Crumb Cake on a napkin

This tender Blueberry Crumb Cake is buttery and isn’t overly sweet with berries in every bite. It’s topping is crunchy and perfectly sweet.   This is the perfect light dessert for the blueberry lovers or breakfast with a cup of coffee.  This is the perfect thing to make when you find those blueberries on sale . If you have a few extra berries give my Banana Blueberry waffles a try , they are so good.

Southern Deviled Eggs

January 7, 2023 by Debbie Leave a Comment

Southern Deviled Eggs displayed on a egg platter

These Southern Deviled eggs are creamy with a slight tang . They are perfect for all occasions and a staple in most southern households .  This is a good basic recipe that I have been using all of my life and it can be adjusted to your taste.  As long as I can remember we  have had deviled eggs at every holiday and just about every party or get together in between . I own more deviled egg platters than the average person , seriously no less than 10 platters of all shapes and sizes. I have collected then over the years buying most of them at thrift stores. When I see a platter that is a little unusual I have to buy it , like the one in the picture.  If you like this recipe you need to check out my Jalapeno Cream Cheese Deviled Eggs, it is a great twist on a classic.

Cut Out Sugar Cookies

December 11, 2022 by Debbie Leave a Comment

Cut out sugar cookies cut in circles already baked

These are the best cut out sugar cookies ! They soft , buttery and hold their shape perfectly . So versatile they can be topped with my sugar cookie frosting  , a glaze or Royal frosting of your choice. This is a tried and true recipe from my Mother and we made these every Christmas when I was growing up. I can remember sitting at our kitchen table for hours decorating cookies for our neighbors and friends. I first posted this sugar cookie recipe in 2010 to Just a pinch so I would always have a copy of it . That original recipe makes a ton of cookies so I cut it down a bit. If you love sugar cookies you need to check out my Chocolate Dipped Sugar Cookies .

Peppermint Bark

November 25, 2022 by Debbie 19 Comments

Three pieces of peppermint bark stacked next to a candy cane and a plate of them

Peppermint Bark is a Christmas candy with a layer of dark chocolate then creamy white chocolate . The top is dusted with refreshing minty candy canes, this is the taste Christmas .  The one candy I look forward to every holiday season is peppermint bark.  Once of my favorites is the one Ghirardelli makes but over the years it has gotten a little pricey. It occurred to me I could totally make this using their melting wafers. Let me be the first to tell you this is just as good and you get a big bag of this candy but a fraction of the cost . This candy would be perfect for gift giving or even a hostess gift for holiday parties. If you like this recipe give these Dark Chocolate Mint Cookies a try.

Bread Machine Garlic Knots

October 29, 2022 by Debbie 3 Comments

Bread machine garlic knots on a platter and one on a plate These bread machine garlic knots are extra soft and billowy. Slathered with a garlic butter these are a perfect to snack on dipping them in a marinara sauce or perfect along side your favorite soup. These go perfectly with my Pasta E Fagioli , you will even see that I was serving them with it in the photo.  I know these are traditionally made with pizza dough but these are more like rolls and so good. I am from the south and we serve garlic knots with soups and pasta dishes. On a recent trip to the Northeast I got to sample garlic knots in New York and New Jersey . If I lived there I would eat Bagels , Garlic knots and Pizza on a regular basis.  There is something special about all of the bread in the Northeast .

These old fashioned Peanut Butter Cornflake cookies have 6 simple ingredients and come together quickly only using a microwave. These bring back sweet memories of my childhood, it seems like they were at every elementary school party we had. Since they are super simple to make and made with mostly pantry staples we made them often at home as well. Cornflake cookies and Rice Krispy Treats were the two things my mother loved ..Inexpensive to make and Easy. It was a win win all around.

Creamy Mashed Potatoes

October 13, 2022 by Debbie Leave a Comment

Creamy mashed potatoes in a small bowl

These creamy mashed potatoes are super smooth and buttery. They super easy to make if you follow a few tips and tricks. I know how to make mashed potatoes is very controversial because everyone has their own method and tips. I have been a food photographer since 2015 and have made mashed potatoes many different ways . I have used golden potatoes , added cream cheese , warm the milk and butter, cream or half and half . I have also used a hand mixer , and potatoes mashed and my wire whisk on my kitchen aid. Using a Ricer is by far my favorite method . You will always have a lump free , fluffy mashed potato every time. These potatoes are easy enough for everyday but special enough to appear on your holiday table.  If you like this recipe you will love these Mashed Sweet Potatoes.
