It is only mid May but summer is here in south Louisiana. The temperatures have been in the 90’s for a few weeks so ready or not it is here. Summer weather means throwing some meat on the barbeque pit and everyone sitting outside soaking up some vitamin D. While the meat is the main attraction let’s not forget the yummy sides. What would a cookout be without baked beans , some sort of salad or a cool creamy dessert? These are four of my favorite sides, at least one of this dishes make it to our cookouts no matter what.
It is like an unwritten rule that baked beans must be present with all barbecue, it is a must. The Angry Pig Baked Beans is a sweet and spicy mixture that we fell in love with. I took the basic baked beans recipe my mom taught me to make and just adjusted and it is delish!!
It’s hot here in the south so we always like a few cool salads. This Zesty Pasta Salad Supreme is tangy and has a nice balance of veggies, meat and cheese. I honestly can eat this as my entire meal in the summer, made with fresh cucmbers and tomatoes from my small garden.
This Strawberry Lemon Coleslaw is different and will convert a coleslaw hater into a coleslaw lover. It is sweet, tangy and savory all at once. I love the all of the flavors of this dish and it is always a huge hit.
As if you can’t tell I love strawberries!! This Strawberry Delight Ice Box Cake has been a family favorite for years . I actually started making this for crawfish boils, this cool creamy cake helped cool your taste buds down. When we boil crawfish they are super spicy , so this is a refreshing dessert.
