Creamy Mashed Sweet Potatoes

These creamy mashed sweet potatoes are savory and slightly sweet. They are rich and buttery , the perfect side for all occasions especially a holiday meal.

Creamy Mashed Sweet Potatoes in a serving bowl and spoon

I just love sweet potatoes cooked just about anyway there is .  Believe me I just adore Candied Sweet Potatoes and sweet potato casseroles but sometimes I want something not so sweet , these babies are the winner.  Growing up we never had a holiday that didn’t consist of a sweet potato pie and some other type of side dish but I never really thought I would like a savory sweet potato. It turns out I adore the natural flavor , I could literally eat this entire pot of sweet potato goodness.

What you will need to make this recipe :

supplies to make mashed sweet potatoes

Peel and Cube the sweet potatoes and place them in a large pot. Cover the potatoes with water, make sure they are all submerged. Bring the potatoes up to a boil for about 15-20 or until tender.

Drain the potatoes well and place them back into the hot dry pot.  Cube the butter and cream cheese on top of the hot potatoes.  Now add the brown sugar , salt and pepper.

Now either start to mash them with a potato masher or electric mixer.

At this point is you like the texture and taste leave them alone. If you them a little richer and creamier add evaporated milk .

These sweet potatoes are so creamy and rich! If you serve these at your next holiday meal everyone will love them!

I like to roast sweet potatoes or cook on the grill with a bit of chili powder and kosher salt. I’m thinking I may try these with some chili powder added for savory-ness. Looks yummy!
