Bread Machine Garlic Knots

October 29, 2022 by Debbie 5 Comments

Bread machine garlic knots on a platter and one on a plate These bread machine garlic knots are extra soft and billowy. Slathered with a garlic butter these are a perfect to snack on dipping them in a marinara sauce or perfect along side your favorite soup. These go perfectly with my Pasta E Fagioli , you will even see that I was serving them with it in the photo.  I know these are traditionally made with pizza dough but these are more like rolls and so good. I am from the south and we serve garlic knots with soups and pasta dishes. On a recent trip to the Northeast I got to sample garlic knots in New York and New Jersey . If I lived there I would eat Bagels , Garlic knots and Pizza on a regular basis.  There is something special about all of the bread in the Northeast .

Southern Buttermilk Biscuits

July 29, 2020 by Debbie 20 Comments

Southern Buttermilk Biscuits on a black plate

There is nothing more comforting than a good old fashioned  hot Southern Buttermilk Biscuits slathered with soft creamy butter. Biscuits are the bread of the south and growing up at my grandmother’s house there was rarely a meal that biscuits were not a part of . Just a platter of biscuits and butter placed in the middle of the table . I’ll be honest , when I was young I had no desire to learn to cook biscuits. I mean the ones from the can are good, Right? They are acceptable in a pinch but homemade are always better.

Apple Crumb Muffins

July 18, 2020 by Debbie 2 Comments

Apple Crumb Muffins next to a cup of tea.

These bakery styled Apple Crumb Muffins are light and fluffy with hints of cinnamon. They are packed with bits of apples and topped with a buttery crumb topping . These are the perfect grab and go breakfast but are delicious enough to have as a light dessert. Being a busy mom I adore muffins ! There are so many varieties and they can be made ahead of time then everyone grabs one as they race out the door. These muffins I adapted to mimic my favorite pie, an Apple Crumb pie.  Yeah I know, not the healthiest breakfast but a nice treat every now and then and they smell amazing while baking .  My family also loves my Banana Oat Muffins and a little healthier Protein Peanut Butter Mini Muffins.

Chocolate Chunk Pumpkin Bread

October 7, 2019 by Debbie 14 Comments

Chocolate Chunk Pumpkin bread on a platter

It is officially pumpkin everything season!! I went shopping with my cousin this past weekend and every shop we went into smelled of fall, it was so intoxicating. We went into a well known high end retail store and they had samples of several of their fall goodies out. One of their mixes was a pumpkin bread mix , that was at best average. Seriously, homemade pumpkin breads are so easy and so much better than a mix. This Chocolate Chunk Pumpkin Bread is so easy and delicious , and is perfect with a hot cup of tea. In the fall I love making breads like this check out my Apple Butter Banana Bread and my Apple Bread with Cream Cheese Filling.

Apple Butter Banana Bread

August 15, 2018 by Debbie 7 Comments

Apple Butter Banana Bread sliced on a platter

This past weekend my husband and I had an adult get away to the hill country to San Antonio and the Hill Country of Texas. The hill country we need another few days there in the future just to hit all the wineries in Fredericksburg. It was just a neat little community that I will return to soon. We were wanting a weekend of more than just shopping and wine tasting so the majority of our time was spent in San Antonio. While in San Antonio we stayed at The Menger Hotel which is like staying in a museum. This hotel is grand and rich in history, and it has a pretty cool bar, lol. The bar is where Teddy Roosevelt was said to have summoned and recruited The Rough Riders. They are very proud of their history and show it off in displays that I just find fascinating.

Cranberry Nut Bread with Orange Glaze

November 19, 2017 by Debbie 7 Comments

The thing about cranberries is either you love them or hate them. I don’t only love them I adore them!! I seriously will have them in all forms ..fresh, frozen , dried , juice, even the jellied stuff in the can. This little fruit is supposed to have a ton of health benefits so this is my way of staying healthy, wink wink. I would say most people don’t like cranberries because they are tart . To balance the tartness they need to be mixed with other flavors . In this Cranberry Nut Bread with Orange Glaze I used the classic combination of cranberry and orange. The sweetness and citrus flavor of the orange really balances the tartness of the cranberries and makes your tastebuds sing with Joy.

Cheddar Jalapeno Cornbread Muffins

October 19, 2017 by Debbie 16 Comments

A plate full of Cheddar Jalapeno Cornbread Muffins

Every comfort food I can think of off the top of my head is full of carbs, and I am especially partial to breads. When bread baskets are offered at a restaurant I am that person that can’t eat their meal because I am full from the yummy warm bread.  Seriously, if someone told me I couldn’t eat bread the rest of my life unless I cut my big toe off , GOODBYE BIG TOE. First I would be looking for a really sharp knife, then I would toss out my flip flops. Life isn’t worth living without the simple luxury of bread, who needs a big toe?!! These little bite sized Cheddar Jalapeno Cornbread Muffins are no exception.

Apple Bread with Cream Cheese Filling

September 24, 2017 by Debbie 22 Comments

Apple Bread with Cream Cheese Filling sliced on a platter

This apple bread with cream cheese filling is simply amazing and just oozes everything about the fall season. Growing up I didn’t eat apples in anything but a good old fashioned apple pie. I just don’t understand why my mom didn’t make more apple dishes when I was young. It is one of those things I need to talk to a therapist about now, LOL!! It wasn’t until I was an adult that I was introduced to how versatile apples can be . Now  I am always experimenting with new ways to incorporate them into not only sweet but savory recipes but being from Louisiana this has been a fight  in my house. My guys are pretty much meat , rice and gravy kind of guys but I am slowly converting them to having an expanded appreciation of food so won’t need therapy also, lol.
