January 17, 2023 by Debbie 12 Comments

a piece of Blueberry Crumb Cake on a napkin

This tender Blueberry Crumb Cake is buttery and isn’t overly sweet with berries in every bite. It’s topping is crunchy and perfectly sweet.   This is the perfect light dessert for the blueberry lovers or breakfast with a cup of coffee.  This is the perfect thing to make when you find those blueberries on sale . If you have a few extra berries give my Banana Blueberry waffles a try , they are so good.

Apple Fritters

August 29, 2022 by Debbie 17 Comments

3 apple fritter on a white plate with one broken in half showing the inside.

These old fashioned apple fritters are small donuts packed with apples and cinnamon. Then drizzled with a  simple glaze to add the perfect amount of sweetness.  These are so simple to make with mostly pantry staples and are ready in less than 30 minutes. These are perfect for holiday breakfast or just because it’s the weekend. Growing up my dad loved these and my mom made them on the weekend often . My Dad loved all apple desserts so these fritters ring back childhood memories. We love apples at my house , check out my Cinnamon Apple crisp.

Pictures of the top 10 Recipes of 2020

As I sat here this morning checking Google Analytics and looked at my top 10 recipes of 2020 I thought ya’ll might enjoy seeing it also.  Like most of you this past year things have been crazy and the rules we follow as food bloggers were thrown out the windows. I was no longer writing recipes to make the Google gods happy , I was trying to be helpful . More people were forced to stay home and cook so I was creating recipes that were easy and things most have on hand.  Some of these recipes top 10 recipes are old favorites and others are new .

Breakfast Pigs in a Blanket

October 28, 2020 by Debbie 21 Comments

Breakfast Pigs in a Blanket on a white plate with syrup.

These breakfast pigs in a blanket are a quick and easy breakfast the whole family will love. The crescent wrapped breakfast sausages are baked to a golden brown and then dipped in maple syrup giving the perfect sweet and savory breakfast. I am a sucker for sweet and savory mixed together so this is my dream breakfast, next to chicken and waffles lol. Unlike Chicken and waffles this is quick and I am all about quick and easy breakfast .  Using these  precooked sausages has made this recipe so much easier . Obviously if you can’t find the precooked links by all means cook your own, but I sure hope everyone can find these. I tend to make little finger foods for breakfast on holiday mornings . I will make these along with my sausage balls and my boys are super happy.

Apple Pie Monkey Bread

October 6, 2020 by Debbie 25 Comments

Apple Pie Monkey Bread on a white platter up close

Apple pie filling sandwiched between tender cinnamon rolls held together with a gooey brown sugar glaze. This Apple Pie Monkey bread is the perfect breakfast for a special occasion. Who needs a special occasion? This decadent monkey bread is perfect anytime ! I feel like I have made this 556 times , ok a little exaggeration on my part. When I was developing and tweaking this recipe I made it three times, which is pretty normal. Baking time needed adjusting  and techniques and photographs taken.  My SD card that stores all of my photos literally fell apart and all of my photos were lost. I quickly remade several of my recipes that the photos were lost to but this one was the one I really didn’t mind making over again. Just the smell of it baking is intoxicating .

Old Fashioned Sausage Gravy

August 12, 2020 by Debbie 14 Comments

.Old Fashioned Sausage Gravy in a white serving bowl

Old Fashioned Sausage Gravy is a southern staple usually served with a flaky Buttermilk biscuit. This creamy gravy can be whipped up in minutes and is hearty enough to be served for any meal of the day. This was the first type of gravy my mother taught me to make. When I learned I really didn’t cook, so basically if a teenager can make this anyone can. This gravy was dished up on a regular basis when I was growing up , I had two older brothers and we all loved it. My mother didn’t make homemade biscuits but we sometimes had this served over toast and even a big dollop on some hash browns. This old fashioned sausage gravy is a must when making my Southern Buttermilk Biscuits.

Southern Buttermilk Biscuits

July 29, 2020 by Debbie 20 Comments

Southern Buttermilk Biscuits on a black plate

There is nothing more comforting than a good old fashioned  hot Southern Buttermilk Biscuits slathered with soft creamy butter. Biscuits are the bread of the south and growing up at my grandmother’s house there was rarely a meal that biscuits were not a part of . Just a platter of biscuits and butter placed in the middle of the table . I’ll be honest , when I was young I had no desire to learn to cook biscuits. I mean the ones from the can are good, Right? They are acceptable in a pinch but homemade are always better.

Apple Crumb Muffins

July 18, 2020 by Debbie 2 Comments

Apple Crumb Muffins next to a cup of tea.

These bakery styled Apple Crumb Muffins are light and fluffy with hints of cinnamon. They are packed with bits of apples and topped with a buttery crumb topping . These are the perfect grab and go breakfast but are delicious enough to have as a light dessert. Being a busy mom I adore muffins ! There are so many varieties and they can be made ahead of time then everyone grabs one as they race out the door. These muffins I adapted to mimic my favorite pie, an Apple Crumb pie.  Yeah I know, not the healthiest breakfast but a nice treat every now and then and they smell amazing while baking .  My family also loves my Banana Oat Muffins and a little healthier Protein Peanut Butter Mini Muffins.

Apple Dutch Baby

June 29, 2020 by Debbie 20 Comments

Apple Dutch Baby in a black skillet with powdered sugar sprinkled on top.

This Apple Dutch Baby is a delicious twist on a traditional dutch baby pancake. It has tender apples in every bite and full of cinnamon flavor. If you have never made a dutch baby it is one of those things that is so impressive when it comes out of the oven all big and puffy . Then watching it deflate in a amazement, trust me everyone will gasp . My aunt used to call these “Lazy Day Pancakes”, now that I have made 650 million pancakes I totally get this . Once you know a few tricks these are super simple to make. I made this in mind to go with two of my other recipes my Buttermilk Bourbon Syrup and my Vanilla Crown Royal Whipped Cream. This is totally optional but put all these flavors together and you will think you are at a fancy restaurant for brunch.

Banana Oat Muffins

March 25, 2020 by Debbie 2 Comments

Banana Oat Muffins on table and cooling rack

These Banana Oat Muffins came to be because I am trying to stay out of the stores and use what we have on hand. What  crazy times we are living in.  I have an autistic son that eats a banana everyday for breakfast and he isn’t happy with me for not having fresh bananas. Sure hope these muffins will replace his morning banana but we will see , he is such a creature of habit. If you have some over ripe bananas and have never baked with them this is the perfect recipe to start with.   I am a huge fan of cooking with ripe bananas check out my Banana Oatmeal Chocolate chip cookies.
