Double Chocolate mint Cookie on red plate

These Double Dark Chocolate Mint Cookies stir up all the emotions of Christmas. I don’t know about everyone else but most of my memories of the holidays involve food . Whether it is  the Thanksgiving turkey and dressing my mom made or the hours we spent in the kitchen doing our holiday baking. Most of my childhood memories are centered around food and all the yummy aromas. When I was young my mother and I spent several days in the kitchen making holiday cookies, pecan tassies, candies, and breads to give as holiday gifts .  I was in fat girl’s heaven!!

November 24, 2020 by Debbie 15 Comments

Hot Cocoa Bombs in a cupcake liner decorated for Christmas

Hot Cocoa Bombs are hollow chocolate balls filled with little surprises that pop out when hot milk is poured over them. I mean if you haven’t seen a video of these bad boys floating around on all social media platforms you must be living under a rock, they are everywhere. Check out my video here, they are so addictive to watch.  These things are so much fun! It is so gratifying watching these float slowly in the hot milk and then pop open to expose all the goodies inside. These are not only super fun they are delicious . If you are a hot cocoa lover you will adore this rich chocolaty drink. When I made these I used my Homemade Hot Cocoa mix but any mix will do.  These little balls of happiness will be the perfect homemade holiday gift !

Hot Cocoa Mix

November 12, 2020 by Debbie Leave a Comment

2 mugs of hot coca made with hot coca mix.

This 4 ingredient hot cocoa mix is the perfect thing to keep you warm in the colder months. It is rich , creamy and is excellent for gift giving.  If you are searching for inexpensive teacher gifts or hostess gifts for the holiday season look no further , this is it. This mix can be doubled or tripled and is a fraction of the cost of the premixed hot cocoa. We are hot cocoa fanatics at my house and several years ago when my three boys were younger I discovered making my own mix was so much more cost effective. What is even more fun is adding flavored creamers to give your cocoa a little something extra. While I keep this recipe very basic keep in mind adding flavored creamers like Hazelnut, French vanilla , or even vanilla caramel is so much fun.

Chewy Molasses Cookies

November 4, 2020 by Debbie 23 Comments

Chewy Molasses cookies with a glass of milk

I have mentioned in a previous post that I give home baked goodies during the holidays as gifts. This is a cookie that I have been making for years and it has slowly evolved into what it is today. Honestly I didn’t grow up making or eating molasses cookies. Imagine the HORROR, life without the spicy goodness of molasses cookies. A co-worker introduced me to this type of cookie years ago and shared her recipe with me. Originally her recipe had a frosting but I honestly  like this cookie without frosting. I have also altered the spices over the years and added a pinch of this and that and finally the perfect molasses cookie that just oozes everything about Christmas. This recipe makes plenty of cookies for gift giving or serving a holiday crowd. Heck , leaving Santa some molasses cookies is a nice change from the old standard sugar cookie. Another great cookie to try is my Double Dark Chocolate Mint Cookies .

Buttermilk Bourbon Syrup

November 28, 2019 by Debbie 4 Comments

Buttermilk Bourbon Syrup in a serving dish

A few years ago I tried buttermilk syrup and fell in love, I never looked at maple syrup the same. This Buttermilk Bourbon Syrup I spiced up for the holidays and to go with my Eggnog French Toast ,but this can be used on just about anything. Don’t be scared of the bourbon , it isn’t harsh and the alcohol cooks out. It can be eliminated all together but I love the flavor , it really adds a special touch.  This syrup also would be a great addition to my Spiced Pumpkin Apple Pancakes.

Chocolate Peppermint Cake Balls

November 21, 2019 by Debbie Leave a Comment

Chocolate Peppermint cake Balls tower on a white plate

These Chocolate Peppermint Cake Balls ooze everything I love about Christmas goodies. Dark yummy chocolate and the slight minty flavor that reminds you of candy canes. I remember back in the 1990’s when I first started making cakes balls , it was usually reserved for away to use left over cake. Then everyone started making them just because. Why? Because they are frickin delicious !! Gooey yummy cake drenched with frosting in the center rolled in a ball , then coated with chocolate . I have learned a lot of tricks along the way to make these so much easier than I did back then . One of the best things I have discovered is Bada Bing Bada Boom Gourmet Chocolate from Chocoley.  This is the easiest chocolate I have ever worked with and the best for coating cake balls. It stays smooth and melted , I coated all the cake balls without having to reheat it. I’ll discuss more tips and tricks but if you love chocolate and peppermint check out a few other of my recipes.   Peppermint Mocha mix and Double Dark Chocolate Peppermint Cookies are both perfect for the season.
