Southern Sweet Potato Pie

October 20, 2020 by Debbie 6 Comments

Southern Sweet Potato Pie on a table next to fresh potatoes

This southern sweet potato pie has just the right amount of sugar and spice, then is  baked to perfection . This pie is a staple in the South during the holidays and even takes the place of pumpkin pie on some dessert tables. Growing up my mother did not make pumpkin pie during the holidays. This was our pie of choice along with Pecan Tassies. This decadent pie is over looked many times during the holiday , but a really don’t know why . The funny thing is if you love pumpkin pies you will adore this rich and creamy pie. The opposite isn’t always true ..weird but true. I haven’t figured out if it’s a flavor or texture thing. This pie is like mashed sweet potatoes but held together slightly with a little spice, a little different from it’s holiday pie cousin. If you love the OTHER holiday pie  you must check out my Pumpkin Pie Supreme, how you can make a plain pie really extra.

Pumpkin Cupcakes with sprinkles

These pumpkin cupcakes have simple ingredients and super easy to make . They are moist and full of fall flavors then topped with a maple buttercream frosting . These delightful cupcakes are a must try during the fall season and are sure to be the first dessert to disappear. I created this cupcake with some Sprinkle Pop sprinkles in mind . I had ordered their pumpkin carriage sprinkle mixture and fell in love with the colors and flavors. I am not affiliated with this company at all, I just love their produce. Check them out here. All of their sprinkles are the perfect way to jazz up a plain cupcake or cake for the season.

Pumpkin Crisp

September 3, 2020 by Debbie 22 Comments

Pumpkin Crisp on a white plate with whipped cream.

This Pumpkin Crisp has a pumpkin pie type filling and a spicy buttery crisp topping. Easier than pie this will soon be a fall favorite served with whipped cream or ice cream. While I love pumpkin pie a crisp is much easier not only to make but this recipe can serve a crowd. I have made a ton of crisp in my kitchen, when I was playing around with making an Apple Crisp I incorporated crushed ginger snaps in the crisp. While I loved it on my Apple Crisp it just wasn’t right and I knew this would be a good combination for pumpkin. Boy was I right , I could have eaten this whole pan. Fall food is my favorite and I have a special place in my heart for pumpkin.

Cinnamon Apple Crisp

August 18, 2020 by Debbie 17 Comments

Baked Cinnamon Apple Crisp in a white casserole dish next to green apples

This cinnamon apple crisp is full of warm juicy apples and topped with a buttery oat crunch.  This is the perfect dessert for any time of year for those apple lovers . I adore anything with baked apples , especially a good apple pie but they are so much work. Apple crisp are so easy anyone can make them plus there is no dough to mess with and most importantly you don’t have to wait for it to cool. I have made MANY crisp in my kitchen and this method by far is my favorite. A warm apple crisp with a scoop of ice cream is just the perfect dessert for any occasion. The only thing that could make it better is possibly a little caramel ganache drizzled on top..super fancy !

Fresh Peach Pie

June 8, 2020 by Debbie 17 Comments

Whole fresh peach pie with lattice crust on top

Nothing says summer to me more than a fresh peach pie!  This is such a simple recipe to let the sweetest summer fruit shine . The hardest part about this recipe is peeling and slicing the peaches. While you can used canned or frozen peaches nothing beats a good ole summer ripened peach. This time of year I can walk into a super market and smell the peaches, I just can’t resist them. Another great recipe using fresh peaches is my Peach and Cherry Amaretto Crisp, it’s so good with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Key Lime Ricotta Cookies

April 16, 2020 by Debbie 21 Comments

Key Lime Ricotta Cookies on a plate with limes

These Key Lime Ricotta Cookies are my latest baking comfort food. Like the rest of the country I find comfort in baking and eating what I bake. I find it fascinating what people are buying and hoarding. I haven’t been able to buy flour and yeast in weeks , those items just fly off the shelves . Don’t even get me started on cleaning products, luckily I keep my cleaning supplies pretty well stocked but I am starting to get nervous, lol.  So back to this cookie, I took a really basic fluffy ricotta cookie and gave it a tangy sweet flavor of key lime. I just love anything that is full of citrus flavor.

Easy Beignets

January 12, 2020 by Debbie 6 Comments

Easy Beignets on a napkin

I am all about making life easy and this is how these Easy Beignets came to light. Let’s talk about beignets for a minute. Is it a dessert or breakfast? Who cares , they are delicious. If you aren’t from Louisiana or visited one of the major cities you may not have ever had them. Beignets are pronounced Ben-yay… I know I know nothing in Louisiana is pronounced the way it looks. I mean we spell go with an X..Geaux . Don’t even get me started on Tchoupitoulas, I was an adult before I got that one.  Beignets are basically a fried pastry or a french doughnut served hot and smothered with powdered sugar. They are fluffy in texture , fried until golden brown and very air like. You aren’t doing it right unless you inhale a little powdered sugar when you take your first bite ,lol. …

Chocolate Dipped Brownie Hearts on a stand

These Chocolate Dipped Brownie Hearts are the ultimate Valentine’s Day treat.  As if brownies aren’t enough we need to chocolate dip them sending them to a whole new level of goodness for your sweetheart. These moist and tender brownies remind me the the prepackaged brownies you get out of the box , but so much better. I used my go to chocolate to dip them , Ghiradelli Dark Chocolate wafers . If you are looking for another treat to make you need to check out these Red Velvet Heart Cookies.
